Chad Kroeger Calls Out Corey Taylor and Stone Sour

Nickelback Press

Chad Kroeger, frontman of Nickelback, has made the news again by calling Stone Sour “Nickelback Lite” as well as challenging Corey Taylor to “write a hit song.”

Chad found himself being interviewed by Metal Covenant in Sweden and he was not able to keep his mouth shut. A little over 8 minutes into the first video (below) Chad said “I can’t think of another band that’s as diverse as we are.” As soon as he said that he made sure to mention that he wasn’t talking out of “pride or ego.” He then asked the interviewer if he could think of another band that was as diverse as Nickelback.

It’s time to get out the popcorn.

The interviewer made note that Stone Sour is another band that can be “very diverse.” Chad immediately responded with “Yeah, That’s because they’re trying to be Nickelback” and then takes a drink from the beer in his hand. Chad continued, “Corey Taylor has said some really nasty things about me before in the press. He talks about how easy it is to write a hit song. Well, show me. Show me. Write one. I have yet to hear one. They’re okay, but they’re not as good as Nickelback. They sound like ‘Nickelback Lite.'”

Chad goes on to criticize both Slipknot and Stone Sour by saying “We were signed to the same label. They had to masks on and jump around. How good can your music be if you’ve gotta beat each other up on stage, throw up in your masks every night… I mean, music shouldn’t have a gimmick; it should just be music. None of my favorite music comes with a gimmick. And he got tired of sitting behind a mask. He wanted people to know what he looks like, so he started Stone Sour.”

Kroeger has been known to say some crazy sh!t throughout his career, but this just might take the cake. Do I think he’s got some good points? Sure. Do I think he could’ve gotten his point across without being an ass? Sure.

I had a chance to chat with Chad and Mike from Nickelback a few weeks ago and you can listen to my full interview HERE.

Nickelback is on the Feed The Machine Tour this summer and will make a stop in Kansas City at the Starlight Theatre on July 23rd.

Stone Sour is out on tour this summer with Korn, but they don’t have a stop in or near our listening area. Maybe Chad was right…
