If you need a ride there are many services now available from taking a taxi, the bus, phone a friend, uber… however there is one number you shouldn’t call for a ride, 911. PEOPLE IT’S FOR EMERGENCIES ONLY.
Reported by Brevard Times, a Florida man called 911 claiming his grandmother was having a stroke in the parking lot of the local Hooters restaurant and he needed a ride to go assist her. Dispatchers and police take 911 calls seriously… it’s their job! Dispatchers sent out officers to investigate the situation and to attempt to help the woman who was reportedly having a stroke. Turns out no one was having a stroke at Hooters. The Florida man, Jonathan Clayton Hinkle had made a false 911 call to get a ride to Hooters. The police did locate Mr Hinkle’s grandmother and she was safe at home. She did not call Hinkle to tell him she was in need of help.
Police did end up giving Hinkle a ride but not to Hooters! Hinkle was booked in the Brevard County Jail in Sharpes, Florida where he was charged with misuse of the 911 system, his fourth offense. Remember 911 is for emergencies only!
